Trolls: Original Move Picture Soundtrack is the soundtrack anthology to the 2016 DreamWorks Animation film Trolls, released on September 23, 2016 by RCA Records. The soundtrack is produced primarily past vocaliser Justin Timberlake, Max Martin, and Shellback. It features piece of work from Timberlake himself, along with Anna Kendrick, Ron Funches, Zooey Deschanel and Gwen Stefani, who all voice characters in the film, besides every bit Globe, Wind & Fire and Ariana Grande.[1] The album was certified Platinum in Commonwealth of australia and Double Platinum in the U.s.a.. The song "Can't Stop the Feeling!" was nominated for an University Honour and won a Grammy Award.

Background [edit]

Later being announced as the voice to the pb character in the musical one-act Trolls opposite Anna Kendrick,[two] Billboard reported that Justin Timberlake likewise signed on to write and perform original music for the film.[3] Timberlake said in an interview:

Information technology kind of all happened at the aforementioned time. I've been friends with the Katzenbergs for years, and Jeffrey had always spoken to me about doing a DreamWorks Animation pic. I believe his line was, "Nosotros can't let Elton have all the fun," and I've always said, "If the right thing comes up, allow's exercise information technology."... The directors brought me to the DreamWorks campus and pitched me the movie and the character. And when I came out of the room Jeffrey was there, and he said, "And at that place's this other affair you could do…"[iv]

Past the time Timberlake joined the project, there was withal some original music needed to exist written for the movie. Timberlake planned to cover the disco genre among the diverseness of pop songs nowadays in the film.[4] For the soundtrack album, Earth, Current of air & Burn down re-recorded "September" with Timberlake and Kendrick.[5]

Commercial operation [edit]

The soundtrack peaked at number 1 on the ARIA Charts,[6] 3 on the The states Billboard 200 album nautical chart, four on the New Zealand Albums Chart,[7] and four on the UK Albums Chart.[8] It received Platinum certifications by the Recording Industry Association of America[9] and the Australian Recording Manufacture Association,[x] and a Gold certification by the British Phonographic Industry.[eleven] In the U.s., it has sold 573,000 copies by April 2017,[12] and was the twelvemonth's 10th highest selling album in the country with 522,000 sold throughout 2017.[13]

The lead single, "Tin can't Stop the Feeling!" performed past Justin Timberlake, was released on May 6, 2016, and reached number one on the official charts of 17 countries, including the US Billboard Hot 100.[xiv]

In 2017, Trolls was ranked as the 11th nigh popular album of the year on the Billboard 200.[fifteen]

Two years after the soundtrack was released, it was ranked as the 80th most pop album of 2018 on the Billboard 200.[16]

Accolades [edit]

Trolls was nominated for Best Soundtrack at the 2016 St. Louis Gateway Flick Critics Association.[17] For his work on the soundtrack, Justin Timberlake was nominated for Outstanding Music Supervision – Motion-picture show, along with Best Soundtrack From a Movie, at the 2016 Hollywood Music in Media Awards. At the ceremony, "Can't Stop the Feeling!" won Best Song Written for an Animated Picture.[18] The album was nominated at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards for Top Soundtrack/Cast Album[19] and at the American Music Awards for Top Soundtrack.[twenty]

"Tin can't Stop the Feeling!" won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media,[21] and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.[22] Timberlake received the Hollywood Song Honour for "Can't Stop the Feeling!" at the 2016 Hollywood Pic Awards.[23] It was also nominated for the Gilded Globe Award for Best Original Song,[24] Critics' Selection Award for Best Song,[25] and Satellite Honour for Best Original Song.[26]
